SEOUL, Nov. 21 (Yonhap) —The Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) won the first "Korea K-Culture grand prize," hosted by the Korean Academic Association of Business Administration.
The Korea K-Culture Grand Prize is awarded to institutions that have contributed to the development of K-Culture (Korean Culture) and the enhancement of Korea's nationality through the spread of the Korean Wave.
The award ceremony was held at the autumn conference of the Korean Academic Association of Business Administration on November 18, according to the Busan International Film Festival on Monday. Chairman Lee Yong-kwan received the award as its representative.
The Busan International Film Festival was chosen as the first recipient of the award for being one of the best film festivals in Asia, as well as for creating a hub for Asian films, spreading, and developing K-culture.
Chairman Lee Yong-kwan said, "I am happy that I received this honorable award as the representative of the movie industry."
Under the vision of "Hometown of Asian Films," the Busan International Film Festival is continuing their leading journey as not only the main festival of Korean films, but also Asian films.
The 27th Busan International Film Festival, which closed last month, was held for the first time in three years due to COVID-19.
It showed its status as a representative Asian film festival by resuming Asian film support programs and expanding the on-screen section in line with the trend of the video industry.
Asian Contents & Film Market introduced Busan Story Market, the start of the IP (intellectual property) transaction, this year, playing a leading role in promoting Korean movies and contents as well as various contents in Asia and the world.
