World Heritage Festival to be held at Andong and Yeongju

SEOUL, September 1  (Yonhap) -- North Gyeongsang Province announced on Thursday that World Heritage Festival will be held at six UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Andong and Yeongju.

Six sites are Hahoe village, Dosan Seowon, Byeongsanseowon Confucian Academy, Bongjeongsa Temple, Sosuseowon Confucian Academy and Buseogsa.

This event is held annually since 2020 to celebrate their registrations as UNESCO World Heritage Sites and to enjoy worth and meanings of world heritages.

This year’s event with the theme “World Heritage in Transit” will be held in
North Gyeongsang province in Sept., and Suwon Hwaseong and Jeju in Oct.

North Gyeongsang province event will be hosted by Cultural Heritage Administration, North Gyeongsang province, Andong city, and Yeongju city, and directed by Korea Cultural Heritage Foundation and World Foundation for Confucian Culture.

The World Heritage International Conference will be held at Sosu Seowon on Sept. 3, and the opening ceremony will be held at Buseoksa Temple in Yeongju and Hahoe Village in Andong.

18 exhibition, concert, and tiral programs will be provided with the theme of World Heritage.

There will be a permanent heritage-themed exhibition, in which many distinguished artists participated, from the 'World Heritage Festival Theme Pavilion' designed by architect Seung Hyo-sang, in Hahoe Village

At Byeongsan Confucian Academy, programs such as staying three days at Byeongsan Confucian Academy to learn the value of staying in a seowon, and a walking tour program of walking along the Gugok road between Byeongsan seowon and Hahoe Village with live radio will be prepared.

Dosan Seowon will open at night this year as it did last year.

At the Sosu Seowon World Heritage International Conference, various sessions experts participate such as a keynote lecture by architect Tadao Ando with the theme of “The intersection of world heritage tradition and modernity” will be held, while Media art and temple concert will be held at Buseogsa.

“AR Heritage Detective,” which can be done with mobile using augmented reality (AR), and “My World Heritage Exploration” will be available during the event period.

North Gyeongsang province Governor Lee Cheol-woo said, "We will do our best to attract tourists by using this as a good opportunity to promote the value and excellence of World Heritage sites."
