SEOUL November 23 (Yonhap) -- “Since I had to act out using the way I glare at one another, instead of memorizing the script.”
Member of the group Wanna One, actor Park Ji-hoon is currently receiving numbers of compliments by the critics due to his transformation from a prince like image he accumulated throughout his work to a character with complicated emotions such as sadness, anger, loneliness, all portrayed with a straight face throughout WAVVE’s original series “Weak Hero: Class 1.”
Protagonist Yeon Si-eun played by actor Park Ji-hoon is a very smart student, however he goes against bullying that goes around him. He is very quiet, and emits down to earth like vibe, therefore before the series premiered a lot of critics were curious to whether actor Park Ji-hoon with an image of light and cute is capable of acting out such role.
Actor Park Ji-hoon engaged in an interview at a café within the jongno district on Wednesday and stated “I would like to be recognized as an actor.”
Actor Park Ji-hoon addressed “Throughout the production I focused on my acting in hope that once the audience watches the series it would bring up the question ‘Did Park Ji-hoon had such side?’” adding “I thought ‘Weak Hero: Class 1’ could be the one production that can provide me with a turning point therefore I worked very hard preparing for the role.”
Continuing on actor Park Ji-hoon stated “I thought of the glare to be the unique power of my character, protagonist Yeon Si-eun is not a character who is well trained or swears often, therefore naturally I focused on using my glare and stare to convey the meaning I wanted the audience to receive, I used actor Kwon Sang-woo’s acting from ‘Once Upon a Time in High school’ to be the foundation of my acting.”
With the blank look on his face protagonist Yeon Si-eun portrays various feelings, to the provocation done by his classmate Yeon Si-eun maintains his straight face, also when he throws a punch after being completely overwhelmed by his emotions, he keeps his straight face giving off a very creepy vibe.
“Staring actions was much harder on me than actually moving around other than the physical actions. After a day of filming I would come back and pass out. When working on the set I focused on to my acting just like when the adrenalin rush hits you during your workout. Since I am so focused on the moment, whenever I look over the scenes we shot, I would be surprised by the look that I give off.” addressed actor Park Ji-hoon throughout the interview.
When asked about actors favorite scene, Park Ji-hoon picked a scene where he finds out that Oh Beom-seok, acted by Hong Kyung was behind the trouble and throws a punch, and stated “Emotions such as Anger, frustration, sadness denial, and more can been seen on my face.”
Actor Park Ji-hoon was attracted by the different measures protagonist Yeon Si-eun takes in order to fight against the school bullying unlike other victims showcased in school related series.
Throughout the series protagonist Yeon Si-eun bashes on one of the bully’s face with a thick book thinking of the Newtonian Law of Motion, and continues on clicking the pen to create a scary atmosphere thinking of the Pavlov’s Theory of Classical Conditioning.
“Character’s usage of tools to overcome his think body shape to fight against big bullies came to me as very interesting,” adding “Throughout the original webtoon the character uses more unrealistic techniques to fight off bullies, however those were left out due to realistic reasons.” announced actor Park Ji-hoon throughout his interview.
Actor Park Ji-hoon started off his career as a child actor. He was featured in dramas and stages of musical in the past.
However, he truly became popular amongst his fans after he participated in “Produce 101.” After coming up with his own unique catch phrase, Park Ji-hoon debuted as a member of Wanna One and started his career as a member of a boy group.

Since COVID 19 prevented a lot of artist to meet up with their fans, I would love to meet up with my fans in South Korea and those who are living abroad.” addressed actor Park Ji-hoon throughout the interview conducted on Wednesday.
