SEOUL, Jan. 24(Yonhap) – K-pop boy group THE BOYZ’s Eric(real name Son Young-jae) has tested positive for the new coronavirus as a series of infected cases follow one after another in the music industry.

The agency IST Entertainment said through THE BOYZ’ official fan café on Jan.24, “THE BOYZ’s Eric from our agency has tested positive for the coronavirus on Monday morning.”

According to the agency, Eric recently completed the third vaccination.

The agency explained, “We heard that the acquaintance, who had dinner together, was later confirmed to have contracted the virus, so the singer conducted a PCR test on Jan. 21 morning and received a negative test result.”

It added, “Eric showed no symptoms, so after he was quarantined until Jan. 21, the singer joined the schedule after receiving a negative test result from a self-diagnosis kit on Jan. 22,” adding, “Eric tested positive for COVID-19 from the test, which was conducted preemptively ahead of the group’s reality show shooting on Jan. 24.”

Other members are currently waiting for the results of PCR tests.

The agency said, “Immediately after hearing that Eric has tested positive for the coronavirus this morning, both THE BOYZ and staffs conducted the PCR test and they are currently waiting for the test results,” adding, "We also notified the organizer of schedules from last weekend”

THE BOYZ including Eric participated in the “31st Seoul Music Awards,” which was held in Gocheok Sky Dome in Guro-gu, Seoul, the previous day.

The agency mentioned, “The official schedules that were planned will be adjusted,” adding, “We will spare no support for the health and safety of the artist by faithfully cooperating with the epidemiological survey of the quarantine authorities.”
