SEOUL, July 10 (Yonhap) -- The film "Tabi to Hibi," starring South Korean actress Shim Eun-kyoung and directed by Japanese filmmaker Sho Miyake, has been invited to the international competition section of the 78th Locarno International Film Festival, distributor Atnine Film said Thursday.

Based on the manga by Yoshiharu Tsuge, "Tabi to Hibi" follows a screenwriter named Lee (played by Shim), who undergoes a personal transformation after encountering Benzo (Tsutsumi Shinichi), the owner of an inn, during a snowy journey.

Sho Miyake is known for his previous works "And Your Bird Can Sing" (2020), "All the Things We Never Said" (2023), and "All the Long Nights" (2024), which were consecutively invited to the Berlin International Film Festival. "Tabi to Hibi" marks his latest cinematic effort.

"It is an honor to be part of Sho Miyake's beautiful world," Shim said in response to the film’s festival invitation.

The Locarno selection committee praised the film as "a work that represents the finest in Japanese cinema" and noted its "delicate portrayal of the essence of human nature."
