SEOUL, Jan. 12 (Yonhap) – Tenor Juan Diego Florez, the master of "Bel Canto” that requires the use of high-pitched notes and techniques, holds his first performance in Korea.
Juan Diego Florez’s first concert in Korea will be held at the Seoul Arts Center Concert Hall in Seocho-gu, Seoul on the 12th of next month, announced the performance agency Seoul Concert Management on Sunday.
Juan Diego Flores, a world-renowned tenor from Peru, is also called "Pavarotti's successor" for his outstanding high-pitched and abundant power of expression.
In 1996, at the age of 23, he has been praised for appearing in "Matilde di Shabran" at the Rossini Festival in Italy, and then has appeared in world-class opera theaters such as the Royal Opera Theatre in London, Vienna State Opera, and the Metropolitan Opera House in the United States.
Like the works of composers Rossini, Donizetti, and Bellini, he has built a reputation as an expert in the "Bel Canto Opera," which requires high-level high notes and decorative sounds.
The first concert in Korea will also feature a program that can use splendid high notes and techniques.
It opens with the overture of Rossini's opera "L’italiana in Algeri” and will play songs from Donizetti’s "L’elisir d’amore," Verdi's "Rigoletto," Guno's "Romeo and Juliet," and Puccini's "La Boheme." The Seoul Concert Philharmonic Orchestra will take the stage together under the direction of conductor Nicholas Naegele.
