Busan City Government to postpone 'Busan Firework Festival' until further notice

SEOUL October 31 (Yonhap) -- The “Busan Firework Festival” planed for November 5, has been postponed until further notice, addressed the Busan city government on Monday.

Mourning period declared by the South Korean government due to the stampede happened in Itaewon on October 29, led the Busan city government and the committee to go through series of careful consideration, on Monday, and they concluded to postpone the event.

According to the Busan City Government, over 1 million people are expected to gather up at the “Busan Firework Festival,” therefore for safety purposes the government will place over 37 hundred guards throughout the festival, and planned on blocking entrances to subway stations and more. However Busan City Government has decided to follow the government’s decision to declare mourning period and postpone the event until further notice.

The City Government will take their time to examine how the current situation continues on and decide upon the future of “Busan Firework Festival.”

Mayor of Busan Park Heong-joon stated “I send my deepest condolences to those who have lost their lives or lost someone close due to the Itaewon incent and wish those who were injured will recover soon.” adding “Following the National Mourning period, ‘Busan Firework Festival’ which was expected to kick off on November 5 will be postponed until further noticed.
