SEOUL, May 20 (Yonhap) -- Prosecutors have sought a prison sentence for Jung Il-hoon (27), a former member of the idol boy group BTOB, who has been put on trial for marijuana use.

On the 20th, the prosecution asked the court to sentence the defendant Jung Il-hoon to four years in prison and collect 133 million won at a decision trial held at the Seoul Central District Court.

"I'm sorry to disappoint many people who believed in me, and I had a chance to reflect on my life through this incident," Jung said in his final statement. "Although it has become irreversible, I will try to live a shameless life by learning from the pain and enlightenment of this incident forever."

Jung's lawyer appealed for leniency in his final defense, saying, "The defendant is now deeply reflecting on himself," adding, "At a young age, he was under severe stress from working in the entertainment industry as a composer and trainee, and tried to relieve his stress in the wrong way."

Jung has been put on trial since April this year on charges of buying and inhaling marijuana 161 times from 2016 to 2019.

Cube Entertainment, Jung's former agency, announced that it decided to withdraw Jung from BTOB in December last year after the drug allegations were revealed.

The court will issue a ruling on June 10th.
