Actor Lee Dong-hwi who participated in an interview conducted at a small little café in Jongno district on Feb 3, addressed “Jun-ho is a character of mystery, I just can’t seem to understand his actions.”
“I am very active to a point where I can’t stand not working or not doing anything, therefore when I didn’t have any job I would visit the movie production companies distributing my profile. Since I was very outgoing and doing my best to land a job, I can’t seem to understand Jun-ho’s perspective on life.” addressed actor Lee Dong-hwi throughout his interview.
Moreove, actor stated “I think everyone gets attracted to a character which one can not understand, and that is exactly why I participated in the production of the movie ‘Maybe We Broke Up.”
“I was always skeptical about creating a film which accurately depicts one’s personality, I personally think actors are the ones who act out characters who cannot be understood and through our acting skills we try to convey and make the audience understand something similar to the movie has a possibility of happening. When I first participated in the production I was worried that with such character it might be hard for the audience to relate to my character, however that triggered me to work harder.” addressed actor Lee Dong-hwi throughout his interview.
“Maybe We Broke Up” depicts a story of a couple Jun-ho acted by Lee Dong-hwi and Ah Young, acted by Jung Eun-chae and their break up. Ah Young, who grew tired of Jun-ho’s hopeless romantic personality and Jun-ho who got mad at Ah Young for lack of relatable characteristic decides upon breaking up.
“ I personally think Jun-ho might have felt lethargy from the fact that he has nothing more that he can provide or do for his girl friend, when Jun-ho faced the harsh reality, slowly he was preparing to let Ah Young go.” stated actor Lee Dong-hwi.
Moreover actor stated “One of the biggest concern between couples is their financial standpoints, and reality. I am certain a lot of people have faced one of these problems once in their lives, the movie ‘Maybe We Broke Up’ is a movie where audiences can truly relate to” adding “I think if the audience can truly relate to at least one of the scenes from the movie, then that movie successfully captures director’s intention. I hope a lot of audiences will be able to enjoy such mild but yet very realistic story line of the movie while very strong and provocative films are being released.”
Actor Lee Dong-hwi who collaborated with actress Jung Eun-chae for the first time throughout the movie addressed “Jung Eun-chae has the vibe of the middle ages with antiqueness, I thought to myself that the actress has such foreign vibe to it,” adding “That foreign vibe she possesses when collaborated with Jun-ho is something I really liked about the production.’
Throughout the movie, actor Lee Dong-hwi acts out the character without any makeup on to put more emphasis on the realistic value of the movie.
“I really wanted to act out a character without putting any makeup on.” addressed actor Lee Dong-hwi throughout the interview.
“Instead of showing a perfectly set look as an actor, I wanted to focus on the humane aspect of the character, so that people can actually focus onto the character that I am acting out. And audiences love such experience. For example Frances McDormand, Daniel Day, and more really do look like their regular selves throughout the movie, I really wanted to try out such thing, however when it comes down commercial movies, I just never had the chance to do so.” addressed actor Lee Dong-hwi.
Continuing on, actor Lee Dong-hwi who is celebrating his 10thh year anniversary of his debut stated “After participating in ‘Somewhere In Between’ in 2010, I grew love towards love stories,” adding “I do have an ambition to be called as a talented actor in various genre, however before picking a production I tend to think of whether this story withholds a value to be created as a story.”
Moreover actor continued on by stating, “Looking back in the past, the previous 10 years of my life seems like a miracle. Just being able to feature in such grand production like ‘Reply 1988’ and ‘Extreme Job’ is a pure miracle. After working for 10 years, I have solidified my dream to work at my own pace with my own personal goal and standard. I think if I were to continue on with my career for another 10 to 20 years, people might think of me as a very diligent actor who worked very hard at his place. And that right there will make me very happy.”
