JEONJU, Jan. 21 (Yonhap) -- The Jeonju International Film Festival Organizing Committee announced that 491 films from 75 countries were submitted in the international competition section of the 23rd film festival, on Friday.
This is an increase of 7 countries and 93 films compared to the 22nd film festival.
By continent, Europe was the largest, followed by Asia and Latin America.
By country, France accounted for the largest portion with 56 films.
37 films were from Spain, 35 from China, 33 from the United States, 31 from Argentina, 30 from Italy, and 24 from Canada.
By genre, more than half were drama with 266 films, followed by 168 documentaries and 30 experimental films.
Jeon Jin-soo, a programmer at the Jeonju International Film Festival, said, "Through the international competition, we have confirmed that the passion of filmmakers around the world has not cooled down even in the spread of COVID-19."
Meanwhile, the 23rd Jeonju International Film Festival will be held from April 28 to May 7 in the Jeonju Film Street area.
