SEOUL, July 28 (Yonhap) – About the conflict between trot singer Young Tak and Yecheon Brewer regarding the usage of the trademark ‘Young Tak Makgeolli’, the singer’s management agency has warned for legal action.
“We will actively cooperate with the artist’s original agency (Milagro Entertainment) to closely investigate whether Yecheon Brewer’s actions are violating the right of the publicity in prior to responding”, announced New Era Project, managing for Young Tak on the 28th.
The right of the publicity is a public figure’s right to permit usage of one’s name or appearance for promotional acts.
New Era said, “We will take our best actions to prevent discomfort of advertisement companies in legal alliance with us”, and “will respond firmly to the incident with Shin & Kim Law Firm’s trademark and copyright profession defense counsel.”
Young Tak had stood model for Yecheon Brewer’s Young Tak Makgeolli in accordance with their contract on last April, but their renewal negotiation on June was unsuccessful.
The Brewer claimed that the renewal couldn’t take place because Young Tak asked to register ‘Young Tak’ as its trademark and for 15 billion won for renewal. Also, the company added that regardless of the trademark’s registration it can still use the name ‘Young Tak’ for its makgeolli brand.
On the other hand, Young Tak rebutted denying the demand for 15 billion won and claimed that the usage of the trademark ‘Young Tak’ is the singer’s right to decide.
