NAMWON, Feb. 14 (Yonhap) -- Namwon city of North Jeolla province announced to open the Chunhyang Festival from May 4~8, for five days, around Gwanghalluwon garden.
This year's event will open under the theme of “Love, Again” (translated) and will be held offline and online, considering the spread of COVID-19.
The Chunhyang Festival is an annual festival that marks its 92nd anniversary this year, held under the theme of the passion and love of the main character Chunhyang in Namwon, based on the novel Chunhyangjeon.
The main programs include Chunhyangjehyang, a ritual to commemorate Chunhyang, Miss Chunhyang Contest, to select traditional beauties, and Chunhyang Gugak (traditional music) contest.
Lee Kwang-yeon, chairman of the Chunhyang Festival, said, "There have been regrets that many tourists and citizens have not been able to participate in the event since it was held online," adding, "With such regret and hope, we decided on this year's theme to appreciate the Chunhyang Festival once again."
