SEOUL, Nov. 11 (Yonhap) -- It has come to light that among the individuals who raised plagiarism allegations against singer IU last year, one person is believed to be a former classmate from her middle school, the K-pop diva's agency revealed on Monday.
IU’s agency, EDAM Entertainment, stated, “Certain individuals who, without basis, raised plagiarism allegations in April and May last year have been identified, including one individual suspected to be IU’s middle school alum.”
The agency added, “Despite the ongoing investigation, continued harassment of IU has been reported, and we are taking appropriate measures.”
IU faced extensive online plagiarism allegations at the time and was also accused of copyright infringement, leading to a police investigation. However, the case was dismissed, prompting IU’s side to pursue civil legal action for damages against the accusers.
The agency reported that, while the accused failed to appear at the first court hearing on July 24 at the Seoul Central District Court, a second hearing is scheduled for December 4. However, they did not confirm if this particular individual is indeed IU’s middle school alum.
EDAM Entertainment also disclosed updates on criminal complaints related to IU for the years 2023-2024, as shared by their legal representatives at the Shinwon law firm.

Since last year, a total of approximately 180 individuals have been charged with offenses including threats, defamation, and the creation of illegal composite images. Among these cases, six resulted in fines, and three received deferred prosecution conditional on completing educational programs. A case involving the spread of false rumors alleging IU to be a spy has also been sent to the prosecution.
The agency reaffirmed their commitment to strict, uncompromising action against those posting malicious content.
The firm stated, “We will continue to take strong action against the authors of harmful posts. We urge people to refrain from engaging in such illegal activities online.”
