SEOUL, July 5 (Yonhap) -- Dohangseon Ferry between the main island of Jeju and Udo, an "island within an island", started operating at night from this month. This is the first time since the private ferry service between Udo and Seongsan Port appeared in 1994.
According to Jeju city on July 5, the ferry between Udo, Gujwa-eup, Jeju Island and Seongsan-Pohang General Passenger Terminal, Seogwipo city , started operating at night from July 1.
While the ferry time between Udo and Seongsan Port was 6:30 p.m. during summer, it has been extended by at least 1 hour due to this night ferry.
The last boat from Udo Haumokdong Port to Seongsan Port departs at 7:30 p.m., and the last boat from Seongsan Port to Udo Haumokdong Port departs at 8 p.m.
However, the night ferry will be operated on a trial basis for two months only on July and August.
Jeju city previously installed tower lights at Haumokdong Port and Cheonjin Port for the pilot operation of the cruise ship at night.
Based on the results of the summer night flight, the city will review on the operation of the winter night service.
Currently, the last ferry for the winter season is at 4:30 pm.
Udo trip is said to be divided into 8 separate scenes, including day and night (Juganmangwol, Yahangobeum), Heaven and Earth (Cheonjingwansan, Jiducheongsa), front and back (Jeonpomangdo, Huhaeseokbyeok), and East and West (Dongan Gyeonggul, Seobinbaeksa).
If one is going to Udo on a cruise ship that operates at night, the Yahangobbeum is most recommended.
On summer nights, fishing boats form a group to illuminate the sea off Udo with lights.
At this time, even on a pitch-black day, the calm waters dazzles as if the sea is on fireworks.
Cheonjingwansan is also a must-see attraction. The view of Hallasan Mountain and the peaks of Jeju Oreum seen from Dongcheonjindong Port, Cheonjin-ri, Udo, is spectacular especially when accompanied by the sunset view.
"As the last ferry ends early, not only has there been complaints about the residents that it is hard to go out, but there has also been complaints from the tourists," said an official from Jeju city. "After two months of trial operation, the problem will be identified and the extension of the night ferry ship will be decided.”
