SEOUL November 15 (Yonhap) -- Genius developer Kim Som acted by Kang Hae-rim , who suffers from the Asperger Syndrome lives her daily life by mimicking people around her.

Through detailed embodiment of emotional changes by the actors, Netflix Series “Somebody” showcases human nature of wanting to belong.

“On a surface level, ’Somebody’ might come across as a thriller, however it is more like a mellow drama gone sideways.” addressed director Jung Ji-woo throughout the press conference held at Lotte Cinema on Tuesday.

“Throughout the series I tried my best to include the basic nature people’s want to find someone who understands, and their process of finding that person,” adding “Due to the time restriction I was restricted of things I wanted to show to the audience.” stated director Jung Ji-woo during the press conference.

Instead of focusing on catching the serial killer, the series focuses more on the psychological aspect of the three female characters who are all connected to the killer.

Although the atmosphere of the series is very dark, gloomy and slow so it tones down some of the aspects of thriller, however, due to its very unique way of leading the story it brings interesting experience to those who watch the series.

Actor Kim Young-kwang’s transformation of acting brings interest to its viewers as well. He treats women very kindly and nicely however he can flip to cold hearted killer within a second throughout the series which keeps the tension throughout the drama.

Director Jung Ji-woo who discovered actress Kim Go-eun and helped her become famous through her production “Eungyo” casted three of the new actors for his series “Somebody.”

“When working on a production, it is hard to find a fitting actor or an actress for each individual roles, however by working with Netflix I was awarded with a chance of working with bright young new actors and actress.” addressed director Jung Ji-woo.

Actress Kang Hae-rim, Kim Yong-ji and Kim Soo-yeon who is known for their close relationship worked together throughout the series as three of the friends who fights against the serial killer. All three of the actresses act out very unique characters such as genius developer with Asperger Syndrome, Shaman, and paralyzed police woman throughout the series.

“Everyone finds it hard to socialize with one another, therefore I by setting characters with such disability and sexual minorities as the main character, I wanted to put more emphasis on the difficulty itself.” addressed director Jung Ji-woo on behalf of the question regarding the reasons why he set the main characters the way he did.
