SEOUL, April 18 (Yonhap) -- "I hope this drama will be remembered as a warm story amidst these cold times."

Actor Lee Je-hoon emphasized at the production presentation of MBC's new drama 'Chief Inspector 1958,' held on April 18 at MBC Golden Mouse Hall in Sangam-dong, Seoul, that the drama aimed to depict the growth of a character navigating various incidents and accidents.

Set to premiere on April 19, 'Chief Inspector 1958' takes place in 1958, about a decade before the events of 'Chief Inspector' starring Choi Bool-am, and tells the story of young Park Young-han before he becomes a team leader.

Lee Je-hoon, playing the rural-born detective Park Young-han, known for his expertise in catching pickpockets, joins forces with three colleagues in Seoul to dismantle corrupt powers and transforms into a detective for the people.

"In 'Chief Inspector,' I aimed to create the character of Park Young-han by inheriting the spirit and heart shown by Teacher Choi Bool-am," Lee Je-hoon said. "I incorporated Teacher Choi's advice to portray Park Young-han as a passionate character who may seem reckless and worried at first but is overflowing with determination to catch criminals."

"I've never been as angry as during filming this time. (laughs) Although I've played a detective before, Park Young-han is a character who passionately fights bad guys and protects the weak. It's quite different from the composed and analytical image I've shown in previous works," he added.

Set against the backdrop of an era when crimes were solved solely through innate senses, insight, and perseverance without CCTV, 'Chief Inspector 1958' will revive the romance and delight of analog investigations.

Lee Je-hoon explained, "I thought it would be a special piece to present an analog story set in 1958. I focused on humanism, always prioritizing people."

"I hope to deliver enjoyable memories to those who watch 'Chief Inspector' and spark curiosity about the old 'Chief Inspector' for those who haven't seen it," he added with a smile.

Joining Lee Je-hoon in the drama are actors Lee Dong-hwi, Choi Woo-sung, and Yoon Hyun-soo as his three colleagues.

Lee Dong-hwi, portraying Kim Sang-soon, nicknamed 'Mad Dog' of Jongnam Police Station, remarked, "While preparing for the production, I watched videos of 'Chief Inspector,' and even now, the senior actors' performances are impeccable. I felt the need to carry on their spirit and perform well."

Director Kim Sung-hoon PD expressed, "We chose 1958 as the background to appropriately show Park Young-han's youth. I would appreciate it if viewers see this as witnessing the birth of a superhero."

"We aimed to tell diverse stories with each episode. From Part 1 to Part 10, viewers will witness changing characters," he concluded.
