ANDONG, Aug, 30 (Yonhap) -- “2021 World Heritage Festival Andong” will be held from September 4th to 26th to deliver the values and meanings that our assets carry through exhibitions, performances, and experience events.
The festival, which is celebrating its 2nd anniversary, will take place in four locations; Gongju City·Buyeo-gun·Iksan City (Baekje Historic Areas) in August, Andong of North Gyeongsang Province (Hahoe Folk Village·Bongjeongsa Temple·Dosan Seowon·Byeongsan Seowon) and Suwan City (Suwon Hwaseong Fortress) in September and Jeju Volcanic Island and Lava Tube in October.
Under the theme “World Heritage in Andong: Future Value for Humanity,” the festival will be opened by Andong City, held by Korea Cultural Heritage Foundation and World Foundation for Confucian Culture.
In Hahoe Folk Village, there will be various displays including media-featured exhibition such as dubbed "Andong Seonbi, dreams for a world of absolute fairness”, exhibition of 60 pieces of world assets and Hangul.
There will also be dance drama motivated by the birth myth of the world’s best Russian Mariinsky Ballet, "Hahoetal."
In Dosan Seowon "Dosan Seowon Open at Night" which will be open at nights featuring Toegye Yi Hwang's poems about plum blossoms. The academy also has planned "A Day in Dosan Seowon" featuring the seowon's story and the academic work.taste for arts of seonbis (virtuous scholars).
Byeonsan Seowon has prepared "3 days at Byeonsan Seowon" in which participants can experience the daily lives in the academy. Also they will introduce the story of Ryu Seong-ryong through a music drama "Pungryubyeongsan" in which audiences can feel the beauty of the traditional music and string music.
Also the festival has scheduled a fashion-show using hanji (Korean traditional paper), Hahoe Byeolsingut Gilnori and music concerts as well.
"Through the festival we will widely spread the brand value of Andong, Korea's representative tour city with UNESCO heritages," said Kwon Young-se, mayor of Andong City.
