SEOUL, Feb. 10 (Yonhap) -- During an interview with Yonhap News Agency held at a cafe in Gangnam-gu, Seoul on Friday in celebration of the wrapping up of JTBC’s Wednesday-Thursday drama “Interest of Love,” Moon Ga-young said that she finally understood Ahn Soo-young, the character she plays who reluctant in chasing after her love.

The drama sees Moon as Ahn, a high school graduate banker. Even if she does all the hard work, she is rarely recognized compared to her colleagues who graduated from universities, and she lives alone after cutting ties with her parents due to past wounds.

Ha Sang-soo, played by actor Yoo Yeon-seok, adores Ahn, as they work in the same bank. However, as she encounters him also hesitating for a while, she immediately hides her feelings which have also grown significantly. Instead, she goes out with Jeong Jong-hyun (Jung Ga-ram), a security guard at the same bank, and eventually disappears as she becomes determined to move on and leave Ha for good.

The 26-year-old actress said, “It is not wrong to say that Soo-young rather hid behind the bushes and ran away to avoid facing her feelings,” adding, “What makes our drama so special is that we can understand the characters from different perspectives.”

“Soo-young’s decision may be interpreted as selfish and hurtful, but I think she made the best choice in her own situation,” the actress said. “Ha Sang-soo approaching Ahn is also an act of courage but Ahn giving up what she sees in front of her is also brave.”

Moon insisted that Ahn must have been anxious about her growing feelings toward Ha Sang-soo.

“Soo-young already had so many hurtful memories, and she does not want to be hurt anymore,” she said. “She must have had no other choice but to not face her feelings as she was both anxious and excited when she realized that she had feelings for Sang-soo.”

Moon said, “I believe all relationships are formed from things I lack,” adding, “That is why we have to take good care of ourselves so that we can sufficiently give and receive love from others. I think Soo-young needed time to take care of herself before she loved Sang-soo.”

In the last episode of the drama, Ahn and Ha seem more comfortable facing each other as time flew by. The two look back on their past and their relationship, where they struggled by making wrong decisions at the moment.

The actress continued to share her thoughts: “I think Soo-young would have some regret on her past decisions,” adding, “But the fact that she was able to regret on her choice also implies that her life has gotten better and more stabilized after four years.”

In this romance drama, Ahn also seems to have rather a questionable relationship with Jung Jong-hyun, with whom she feels uncertain whether her feelings are out of love or compassion, and also with Park Mi-kyung (Keum Sae-rok), who lives a plentiful life that Ahn adores.

When asked about Ahn’s feelings for Jung Jong-hyun, Moon explained, “I personally do not differentiate love from compassion,” adding, “There are times when I mee someone better than me, but there are also times when I feel comfortable as I am in a position where I can offer. I think both are considered forms of love.”

“I felt both sorry and proud to see Jong-hyun, who became a police officer, at the end of the crosswalk in our last episode,” she said. “The past wounds that I have gotten from someone else hurts from time to time and I try to heal them. However, the wound that I give to someone else rather seems to be more guilty.”

She moved on to share her thoughts on Park Mi-kyung, saying, “There is a lot from Mi-kyung that Ahn envies and admires but Mi-kyung is also a person who makes Soo-young feel inferior, which she tried not to feel for so long.” She added, “Soo-young never calls Mi-kyung ‘unnie,’ but in the last episode when we reunite after four years, I think their relationship can also be defined as friends.”

Moon said that “Interest of Love,” compared to other works she played in, made her pay more attention not only to her role but also to other characters.

“What makes our drama more eye-catching is that we have four characters all at the forefront,” the actress said. “I think our drama was a success if the viewers questioned themselves about what love is while trying to curse or understand Soo-young."
