SEOUL, April 30 (Yonhap) -- "There have been times in previous works where I died for no reason and times when the winning lottery ticket flew to North Korea. I've often portrayed unJoost characters, but this time, it was more unJoost than ever."
"I woke up from sleep and suddenly felt something strange in my mouth. I couldn't control what I wanted to say; neither lies nor truths came out easily."
Actor Go Kyung-pyo, who plays the protagonist with uncontrollable utterances in the new JTBC drama "Frankly Speaking," which premieres on May 1, revealed his feelings at a production presentation held at a hotel in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, on the 30th.
In the drama, Go Kyung-pyo portrays Song Ki-baek, who becomes uncontrollable with his speech due to circumstances. Song Ki-baek, who has always lived under the compulsion to present himself in a perfect and upright manner as a prominent announcer for a famous broadcasting station, suddenly becomes a character who blurts out everything he thinks.
As everything he has built up collapses, Go Kyung-pyo emphasized, "I wanted to deliver a refreshing catharsis to viewers by spitting out words without hesitation when swearing."
He added, "Although I have done a lot of comedy genres, 'Frankly Speaking' will feel like the ultimate essence of comedy condensed with the know-how I've gained."
Facing the crisis of losing his job, Song Ki-baek's entertainment sense is recognized by On Woo-joo, played by Kang Hana, a 12-year veteran entertainment writer.
Kang Hana described On Woo-joo as someone who "maintains a bright energy despite going through all sorts of trials and tribulations" and said, "She leads Song Ki-baek into the world of entertainment."
Joo Jong-hyuk, known for the drama 'Strange Lawyer Woo Young-woo,' appears as Kim Joong-heon, the former lover of On Woo-joo and a famous trot singer.
Joo Jong-hyuk explained, "I portrayed a character who appears happy like a top star but carries loneliness within," adding, "I took inspiration from singer Young Tak for my acting."
