SEOUL, June 16 (Yonhap) -- “Wounds don’t heal quickly, right? It’s still hard for me but I’m beginning to heal little by little.”

Singer Yim Jae-beum went into retreat for several years after his wife Song Nam-young, a musical actress, died of cancer in 2017. For years, Yim did not meet people, listen to music, or watch TV.

The CEO of Yim’s agency was also surprised to see the singer lose more than 10kg and his hair grow onto his shoulders.

However, Yim took courage and returned to his fans with a new song after 7 years. Despite being in a difficult situation himself, Yim held out his warm hands to his fans with the song “Consolation.”

At a press conference in Yongsan District, Seoul on Thursday, Yim said, “It was a hard time but giving consolation is what I can do with my song.”

“Consolation” sends the message of comfort to people in a dark room overcoming struggles by themselves, by saying, “I want to stand by your side even just at the moment you’re listening to this song.”

Yim said, “After my wife and my father passed away, I was in a situation where I couldn't control myself,” adding, “I hesitated a lot, but the agency took care of me and gave me strength to get up.”

He added, “I think it’s been almost 10 years since I’ve talked in front of so many people. After spending so much time not talking, (now seeing the press) I feel like I’m watching a drama.”

“Just like the reporters, I spent a difficult time through COVID-19. There will be people who went through a rough phase in their family like me. So, there were a lot of opinions that wanted me to start again with the song ‘Consolation’ and give you all comfort.”

Yim who debuted as a former lead vocalist of the band “Sinawe” in 1986, created hit songs such as “For You,” “Desire to Fly,” and “Scars Deeper than Love.”

“Consolation” is said to be created after wondering about the emotions that come after the song “Desire to Fly”s despair, “Confession”s sorrow, and “For You”s inferiority.

Yim said, “I try to express my feelings according to the lyrics of the song, but this time I suppressed my sadness and sang.”

Yim plans to release his seventh full album “SEVEN” within this year and give greater comfort to his fans.”

Among the 11 songs, 8 have been completed. The singer also plans to open a concert and stand in front of his fans.

Regarding how some fans compare him to a tiger, Yim said, “Some say a tiger is coming but I’m not sure if it's a tiger or a cat (laughs).”
