SEOUL October 20 (Yonhap) -- "Gracias Choir" known to travel around the world donating talents of classical music and encourage private exchanges between people hosted a “Peace Concert” at Jerusalem celebrating the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between South Korea and Israel, announced Gracias Choir on Thursday.
Concert withholds a meaning of sharing the hope of peace between two countries suffering under threat of terrorism and unfinished wars.
The concert which took place on October 19 (Israel time) at the International Convention Center located in Jerusalem, professor Boris Abalayn from The Saint Petersburg Conservatory Named after N.A.Rimsky Korsakov and was awarded with merit from the Russian government took the podium.
Moreover, St. Petersburg chamber orchestra’s violinist Chingiz Osmanov and cellist Ivan Sendetsky participated as the solo performers.
Gracias Choir performed Original Soundtrack pieces from the blockbuster movie “Schindler’s List” and Jewish folk music. “Schindler’s List” is based on a true story of Oscar Schindler’s story which saved 12 hundred Jewish people during the Holocaust (Massacre happened during the second world war were the Nazi’s decimated Jewish people.)
Continuing on the choir performed Classical pieces along with “Yerushalayim Shel Zahav” which is extremely popular among Israelis which resulted in applause from over three thousand audiences.
“Both Israel and South Korea share a commonality of having considerate thoughts and sharing boarders with the enemy.” addressed the Israeli orthodox rabbi Yona Metzger at the concert.
“Gracias Choir” which was formed in 2000 was awarded with the first prize at the International Chamber Choir Competition Marktoberdof in 2015.
Moreover, “Gracias Choir” performed in Carnegie Hall in New York, Haydn Concert Hall in Eisenstadt Austria and numerous major concert halls, and participated in a tour through various developing countries and provided charity performances.
