SEOUL, Jan. 20 (Yonhap) - The Seoul Museum of Art has announced that it will hold an international symposium "Paik Nam June, Megatron, and Seoul Rhapsody" at Seosomun Main Building on the 3rd of next month to establish the groundwork for Paik Nam June’s research on "Seoul Rhapsody.”

The symposium is to examine the meaning of "Megatron" in Paik Nam June’s art world and discuss the mid to long-term preservation and restoration of "Seoul Rhapsody" and the operation of works, and the rearrangement of works linked to the remodeling of Seosomun Main Building.

"MegaTron" is a unique form of formation of Paik Nam June in which several monitors are used as a single canvas, the shape crosses the screen, images cross inside and outside the shape, and individual images are played for each monitor. The Seoul Rhapsody, produced in time for the opening of the Seosomun Main Building of the Seoul Museum of Art in 2002, is one of the three pieces produced by Paik Nam June in the form of Megatron.

The symposium will include Lee Soo-young, an art researcher at the Paik Nam June Art Center, media artist Nho Chiwook, Paul Garrin creative technology expert, media conservator Daniel Finn at the Smithsonian American Art Museum, and Kim Hwan-joo, a curator of preservation management at the Daejeon Museum of Art.

You can apply for participation in the symposium free of charge on the website of the Seoul Museum of Art.
