Five members of K-pop boy group Enhypen test positive for coronavirus

SEOUL, Sept. 2 (Yonhap) -- Five members of rookie K-pop boy group Enhypen were confirmed to have contracted the novel coronavirus.

"Members Jungwon, Heeseung, Jay, Jake, and Sunghoon were tested positive for COVID-19 during self-quarantine," the K-pop act's agency BELIFT LAB announced Thursday on a fan community called Weverse.

Upon being noticed that a staff has contracted the coronavirus, Enhypen started self-quarantine on Aug. 26. The group was classified as close contacts by the health authorities the next day, according to BELFIT LAB.

Member Jake showed signs of coughing and fever while undergoing self-quarantine and was tested positive on Aug. 30.

Jungwon, Heeseung, Jay, and Sunghoon, who revealed to experience similar symptoms, were tested one after another.

"All members who were tested positive are taking necessary measures, such as receiving and moving treatment facilities, according to the health authorities' guidelines," the agency said. "The current symptoms the members are feeling are mild."

"Since all the staff and artists at the filming site have undergone polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests or have been tested negative and are self-isolation, the chances of the virus spreading externally are slim," BELIFT LAB explained.

"Although we have made various efforts, we apologize for failing to prevent the spread of the virus and causing concern to Enhypen fans," BELIFT LAB added. "We will do our best to help the members recover their health quickly as we consider health and safety as a priority.

Last February, when the coronavirus officially started to spread throughout Korea, there have been several confirmed cases within the K-pop industry, however this is the first time for five members to be tested positive within a single group.

The seven-piece act was preparing for a new album with the goal of releasing it later this month, but it is expected to be disrupted due to the coronavirus.
