Korean Air, Anduril Industries to co-develop AI-powered wildfire response solution
SEOUL, Oct. 1 (Yonhap) -- Korean Air Co. said Wednesday it has partnered with U.S. defense technology firm Anduril Industries Inc. to jointly develop an integrated solution aimed at preventing and responding to large-scale wildfires.
Under the partnership, Korean Air's unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technologies will be integrated into Anduril's wildfire response platform, powered by the U.S. company's artificial intelligence (AI)-based Lattice software.
The system autonomously detects fire outbreaks, issues alerts to authorities and, if needed, deploys drones for rapid suppression.
The platform uses data collected from sensors located in the air, on the ground and in space to evaluate the scale and intensity of fires with minimal human involvement.
The initiative expands the scope of a teaming agreement (TA) signed in August covering drone cooperation in South Korea and the Asia-Pacific region. The two sides said the partnership is designed to help tackle devastating wildfires in the United States and other countries.
"Through this partnership with Anduril, we aim to complement manpower-heavy wildfire response systems and play a role in preventing devastating wildfires around the world," a Korean Air official said.
