Seoul, May 5 (Yonhap) -- Brendon Todd (36, USA), who has won three PGA Tour championships, will not attend the Wells Fargo Championship, which will open on the 6th after being confirmed to have tested positive for COVID-19.
The PGA Tour announced on the 5th (KST) that J.J Spaun will participate in the tournament instead of Todd.
As a result, five players have been confirmed to have contracted the virus in the past two weeks and have not participated in the tournament.
At last week's Valspar Championship, four players--Tyrrell Hatton (England), Sepp Straka (Austria), Will Gordon and Bryce Garnett (U.S.)--were absent due to COVID-19.
Due to Gordon's positive test results for COVID-19 last week, Spaun earned the spot on the Valspar Championship's waiting list.
Golf Channel, a U.S. golf media outlet reported, "PGA Tour announced last month that they planned to stop testing the players for COVID-19 at the venue from July, but has planned to continue testing until August."
The PGA Tour also decided to exempt athletes or caddies from testing for Covid-19.
The Wells Fargo Championship will be held in Charlotte, North Carolina, for four days.
