SEOUL -- North Korea on Friday stressed the need for swift and accurate weather forecasts, as heavy rain likely to fall during the summer monsoon season could seriously affect the country's agriculture.
The Rodong Sinmun, the North's main newspaper, reported that having accurate weather forecasts is a matter of survival for the agricultural sector, which is gravely affected by weather conditions.

SEOUL -- North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has visited major munitions and machinery factories, calling for efforts to expand production in the overall economic sector, according to state media Wednesday.

SEOUL -- North Korea has test-fired a new tactical ballistic missile capable of carrying a super-large warhead, state media reported Tuesday, a day after South Korea said the North fired two missiles and one of them could have failed.
North Korea successfully launched the Hwasong-11Da-4.5 missile capable of carrying a 4.5 ton-class super-large warhead Monday, according to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

N. Korea's Kim says economic situations markedly on upturn at key party meeting
SEOUL -- North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has voiced his satisfaction about economic performances in the first half at a key party meeting, saying that economic situations are markedly on an upturn, Pyongyang's state media reported Tuesday.
But Kim did not issue any message targeting South Korea or the United States, nor did he reveal details about the country's push to advance its weapons arsenal Monday, the fourth and final day of a plenary meeting of the 8th Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea.

(4th LD) N. Korea fires 2 ballistic missiles; 1 launch possibly fails
SEOUL -- North Korea fired two ballistic missiles in a northeastern direction Monday, South Korea's military said, with one of the launches possibly failing and the missile falling inland within the country.
The Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said one short-range ballistic missile was launched from the Jangyon area in South Hwanghae Province at about 5:05 a.m. and flew about 600 kilometers, landing in waters off the North's northeastern city of Chongjin.

(LEAD) N. Korea condemns joint military exercise by S. Korea, U.S., Japan
SEOUL -- North Korea vowed Sunday to take "offensive and overwhelming countermeasures" to protect its sovereignty as it condemned South Korea, the United States and Japan for their recent joint military exercises.
The move came amid a growing North Korea-Russia alignment after Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un signed a "comprehensive strategic partnership" treaty that calls for providing military assistance to each other without delay if either side comes under an armed attack.
