Drama 'Law School' starring actor Kim Myung-min ends with 6.1% viewership

SEOUL, June 10 (Yonhap) -- The final episode of JTBC's legal drama "Law School," which airs every Wednesday and Thursday, recorded 6.114% in viewership, according to a ratings research company, Nielsen Korea on Thursday.

The last episode ended at 9 p.m. the previous day with the story of Ko Hyeong-su (played by actor Jung Won-joong) being sentenced to prison and Yang Jong-hoon (played by acotr Kim Myung-min), who is a professor at a prestigious law school, and his students returning as lawyers.

"Law School" depicts the story of professors and students of Korea's most prestigious law school becoming entangled in unprecedented cases, immediately being deployed to the scene to solve mysteries and learn about law and justice. Although legal dramas have now become a common genre, "Law School" attempts to achieve freshness and differentiation by showcasing students, who are not yet established lawyers, trying to solve crimes.

The process of Yang Jong-hoon, an unrivaled prominent professor, cooperating with students to punish people taking "legal opportunism" was thrilling. During this process, it was also impressive to see students who had different goals when entering the law school, such as dreams, honor, hope, revenge, and love, step closer to the common goal of becoming a righteous legal profession.

However, there were also areas of improvement within the drama.

The charismatic character of Yang Jong-hoon, who appeared to be a perfectionist, was not completely original because he resembled Kang Mae (also played by Kim Myun-min) from the popular 2008 drama "Beethoven Virus." Also, while the concept and composition of the TV series itself was new in Korea, it was similar to the American thriller drama "How to Get Away with Murder."

Furthermore, the composition of the cases that appeared seemed rather contrived rather than natural, and the lines that many technical terms, so there was a limit to how much the audience could understand.

Nevertheless, Yang Jong-hoon's method of having students experience whether the law is "just" through a series of cases and finding answers to questions was convincing.

The next TV series to air after "Law School" is "Monthly Magazine Home" starring actress Jung So-min and actor Kim Ji-seok.

KBS 2TV's "Sell Your Haunted House," which also airs every Wednesday and Thursday, left a 4.3-5.5% viewership the previous day.

The final episode showed Hong Ji-a (played by actress Jang Na-ra), who regained her exorcism skills, and Oh In-beom (played by singer actor Jung Yong-hwa), a special psychic, becoming true partners and starting anew.

"Sell Your Haunted House," which unravels the topic of real estate in an occult genre, conveyed its exhilaration to viewers by solving the injustice left entangled in homes.

The fact that the main characters fight against the absolute evil of Do Hak-seong (Ahn Gil-gang), gave them a sense of "dark hero" personality, however it seemed the characters other than the two main characters weren't fully acknowledged for their charms.

After "Sell Your Haunted House," KBS' Wednesday and Thursday drama will take a break and return with a drama starring actor Kim Min-jae and actress Park Gyu-young, in September.
