'Hard Hit' starring Cho Woo-jin tops local box office during the weekend

SEOUL, June 28 (Yonhap) -- The South Korean blockbuster "Hard Hit,", topped the local box office during the first weekend of its release.

"Hard Hit," starring actor Cho Woo-jin, topped the box office with 253,000 viewers between June 25-27. This figure is the largest record set this year among other South Korean films including, "Mission: Possible (130,000 viewers)," "The Book of Fish (109,000)," "Seobok (163,000)," "Recalled," and "Waiting for Rain (122,000)."

Based on the Spanish action film "Retribution" (2015), "Hard Hit" portrays Sung Kyu (Cho Woo-jin), a bank manager struggling to keep his daughter and himself safe after receiving a strange threatening phone call in his car.

"The Hitman's Bodyguard 2," a comic action film which was released on the same day as "Hard Hit," ranked second with 135,000. Disney's live-action film "Cruella" followed up with 132,000 viewers, while "Quiet Place II" recorded 130,000.
