MAMA Awards to open with memorial for victims of deadly fire in Hong Kong, donation for relief efforts
SEOUL, Nov. 28 (Yonhap) -- The 2025 MAMA Awards was set to open in Hong Kong on Friday, with organizers saying the annual event will focus on mourning the victims of a deadly blaze that engulfed high-rise apartment buildings and donating to relief efforts.
CJ ENM, the South Korean entertainment company behind the annual K-pop awards show, said it will dedicate time during the two-day event to pay tribute to the victims and make a donation to support relief efforts.
"In line with the local atmosphere of mourning, the red carpet event has been canceled," the company said, adding the main ceremony would still be broadcast live as scheduled.
Organizers said the show's production had been reworked to focus on "comfort and hope" rather than flamboyant performances, with some special effects and staging expected to be altered.
The MAMA Awards, one of the biggest events in K-pop, will be held at Kai Tak Stadium through Saturday, starting at 7:30 p.m. (Korean time), marking the show's return to the city for the first time in seven years.
This year's lineup features top K-pop acts, including Babymonster, Enhypen, Hearts2Hearts, TWS, Stray Kids, Zerobaseone and G-Dragon.
