Gyeonghui Palace night tour program to kick off June 21
SEOUL, June 10 (Yonhap) -- The Seoul Museum of History will launch a night walk program later this month to tour Gyeonghui Palace in central Seoul and learn about its historical background, city officials said Monday.
Gyeonghui Palace, one of five palaces located in the capital that date back to the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910), is where King Sukjong, Yeongjo and Jeongjo had dwelled before much of it was lost during Japanese colonial rule from 1910 to 1945.
Excavation efforts to restore the palace were made in the late 1980s, and parts of it, including Sungjeongjeon Hall, were restored and opened to the public in 2002.
The program, scheduled to run from June 21 to 22, is the first of its kind since the palace opened to visitors, and will have an instructor and author tour the palace and elaborate on its significance and historical background.
There will be two sessions each from 7 to 9 p.m. and 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., with up to 25 people allowed to join each session. Those who wish to participate can sign up at museum.seoul.go.kr or yeyak.seoul.go.kr.
