SEOUL, May 4 (Yonhap) -- Toronto Blue Jays ace Ryu Hyun-jin, who is on the injured list (IL) due to a minor gluteal strain, is expected to start playing against the Oakland Athletics in the Major League Baseball at 4:37 a.m. on the 7th (KST).
Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo said in a video interview on the 4th that Ryu Hyun-jin will be eligible to come off the IL for the series finale in Oakland on Thursday (Friday, the 7th in Korean time).
Ryu voluntarily stepped down with a minor injury against the Tampa Bay Rays on April 26.
Ryu Hyun-jin said the injury was minor, but the Blue Jays placed him on the 10-day IL to prevent further injury.
Previously, Ryu met with the Athletics only once. On April 11, 2018, when Ryu was a part of the Los Angeles Dodgers, he won against Oakland with one hit and no runs in six innings.
Ryu Hyun-jin's performance this season is 2.60 ERA in five games, one win and two losses.
If Ryu Hyun-jin takes the mound on the 7th, he will face veteran right-hander Michael Fiers. He returned to the mound on May 1 due to an injury and became a losing pitcher by allowing six hits and three runs in six innings against the Baltimore Orioles.
