S. Korea, Australia hold joint high-tech Army training

SEOUL, Oct. 25 (Yonhap) -- South Korea and Australia staged combined high-tech military drills this month, the South's Army said Friday, in what marked the first such training between the two nations.

The 11-day exercise wrapped up on Thursday at the Korea Combat Training Center, a facility employing advanced technologies for realistic ground drills, in the mountainous county of Inje, 126 kilometers northeast of Seoul, according to the Army.

Some 3,800 soldiers, including a platoon from the Australian Army's 3rd Brigade, took part in the training that was held to verify their combat capabilities in the event of war and boost interoperability.

The training also mobilized some 580 pieces of equipment, including the South Korean Army's K1 tank, K808 armored vehicle, Surion helicopter and the Australian Army's nano-sized Black Hornet 3 drone, the Army said.
