Booyoung president named adviser to Cambodian PM
SEOUL, May 19 (Yonhap) -- Booyoung Group President Lee Joong-keun has been named as an adviser to Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet to provide help for the development of the country's economy, the company said Sunday.
Lee received a letter of appointment Friday, becoming the first South Korean entrepreneur to get such a letter from Manet, according to the Korean construction company.
Lee plans to give necessary help for Cambodia's economic development, the company explained.
Manet began a four-day visit to Seoul Wednesday to hold a summit with President Yoon Suk Yeol and meet with Korean companies.
Following the summit, the two leaders adopted a joint statement on the establishment of a bilateral strategic partnership, agreeing to expand cooperation across various sectors, including defense, trade and infrastructure.
Booyoung is constructing a massive apartment complex in Phnom Penh for about 15,000 households and plans to open the Woojeong Cambodia School for elementary to high school students and a nursing college.
Meanwhile, the Cambodian prime minister also met with Cho Hyun-sang, vice chairman of Hyosung Group, on Thursday to discuss business cooperation.
In the meeting, Cho said his company, which focuses on chemicals and materials, is working to expand its business in Asia, including Cambodia, asking for the Cambodian government's help.
Hyosung currently exports tire stiffeners, polypropylene and automated teller machines to Cambodia.
