SEOUL, May 18 (Yonhap) -- Global sensation BTS took home the Best Music Documentary award for their documentary film, "Break the Silence: The Movie," at the 2021 MTV Movie and TV Awards ceremony in Los Angeles on the 17th (KST), according to HYBE.

The Best Music Documentary category was created this year, and applied only to documentaries and reality programs at the MTV Movie and TV Awards.

BTS competed with other documentaries about renowned pop stars, including "Ariana Grande: Excuse Me, I Love You," "Billie Eilish: The World's a Little Blurry," "Taylor Swift: Miss Americana," "The New York Times Presents: Framing Britney Spears," "Biggie: I Got a Story to Tell," "Ddemi Lovato: Dancing with the Devil," "Shawn Mendes: In Wonder," "The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart," and "Tina."

"Break the Silence; The Movie" is a documentary film about BTS's "Love Yourself: Speak Yourself" world tour, where the band visited 10 cities around the world in 2019.

The documentary, which tells the true story of the seven members behind the stage, was released last September and was watched by about 1.49 million people around the world. At that time, the film set a record for being released in the world's largest number of countries and theaters since the corona virus outbreak.

The film was produced by HYBE 360, a performance and media content business under BTS's agency, HYBE.
