An Asiatic black bear spotted again in Gwangyang

Seoul, May 19 (Yonhap) -- An Asiatic black bear, designated as Class I endangered wildlife, has been spotted again at Baegunsan Mountain in Gwangyang, South Jeolla Province.

 

According to the fire authorities on the 19th, a hiker found an Asiatic black bear on the deck road to the top of Baegunsan Mountain in Ongryong-myeon, Gwangyang-si at 9:57 a.m. and reported it to 119.

 

Fire authorities confirmed that the bear moved to another place in cooperation with the National Park Research Institute's Southern Conservation Center and police.

 

Earlier on the 13th, an Asiatic black bear was reported to have appeared at a private house in Daap-myeon, Gwangyang.

 

The bear was identified as a 4-year-old male RM-68 brought in from Russia in 2018 and released at the foot of Mount Jiri.

 

The bear was also seen feeding at the foot of Baegunsan Mountain on the 5th and 8th.
