Boynextdoor returns with confidence, challenge in 'The Action'

By Shim Sun-ah

SEOUL, Oct. 20 (Yonhap) -- Boy group Boynextdoor on Monday expressed its determination to take another leap forward with its fifth EP, "The Action," which reflects the confidence it has gained through previous musical experiences.

"If our previous album declared that we wouldn't confine ourselves within a box, this one captures our resolve to jump into new opportunities without setting limits," member Taesan said during a media showcase held in Seoul.

Sungho explained the album embodies the K-pop sextet's passion for growth.

"To grow, action is necessary, and this work encapsulates our spirit of challenge for further growth," he said.

The EP features five tracks in total, including the lead track "Hollywood Action," as well as "Live in Paris," "Jam!" and "Bathroom."

The main track, "Hollywood Action," conveys a bold and confident attitude. Expressing the proud energy of a Hollywood star, the song features an appealing swing rhythm and an addictive chorus.

Members expressed their strong confidence in the quality of the lead track.

"The moment I heard it for the first time, I was certain it would do well. Since all the members contributed to the track, it carries the vivid color unique to Boynextdoor," Woonhak said. "The chorus is catchy and addictive, so listeners will be able to enjoy it together with us."

Jaehyun chimed in, saying: "As soon as we heard it, we said, 'This kind of concept is exactly what we're best at.' We even talked about how this might have the best chorus among all of our songs so far."

Riwoo said the group focused on making the song fun to perform live during concerts.

"We wanted to create something that would let us play and jump together with the fans," he said. "I paid attention to a clear structure and detailed vocal dynamics."

Despite gaining recognition since its 2023 debut, Boynextdoor said it deliberately centered this release on the themes of challenge and growth, as the members still feel there's more to achieve.

"We often feel there's still a lot for us to improve on," Woonhak said. "We wanted to convey the message that we should act boldly, without hesitation and challenge ourselves according to our own will. I hope this message reaches many people."

Sungho noted that every album has been a challenge for the group, but this time, the goal is clearer. "The challenge we want to take on first is to be recognized through our performances and music," he said.

As a group that has always sought to stay closely connected with fans, he added, "The moments that make us proudest are when fans tell us, 'This feels like my own story,' or, 'It reminds me of my yesterday.'"
