Court to hold 1st preparatory hearing of justice minister's impeachment trial Feb. 24

SEOUL, Feb. 4 (Yonhap) -- The Constitutional Court will hold the first preparatory hearing of Justice Minister Park Sung-jae's impeachment trial on Feb. 24, the court said Tuesday.

Park has been suspended from duty since the National Assembly passed an impeachment motion against him on Dec. 12 over his alleged role in President Yoon Suk Yeol's martial law imposition earlier that month.

The first preparatory hearing of his impeachment trial has been set for 2 p.m. on Feb. 24, with Justices Jeong Gye-seon and Lee Mi-seon assigned to preside over the proceedings, according to the court.

A preparatory hearing involves clarifying the main disputes of the case and planning for future proceedings, including the selection of evidence and witnesses.

It does not require the attendance of the person being tried.

Park's trial has been delayed as the Constitutional Court has focused its resources on Yoon's impeachment trial.

Park has repeatedly called for a fair and swift trial, saying his case should be handled before Yoon's.
