Director Hwang Dong-hyuk confirms to make 'Squid Game' season 2... "There's no choice"

NEW YORK·SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 10 (Yonhap) --  Netflix's global sensational series "Squid Game" will be back with season 2, its producer and director Hwang Dong-hyuk announced.

Director Hwang had an interview with AP at an event that took place in Los Angeles, U.S. on the 8th.

"So there's been so much pressure, so much demand and so much love for a second season. So I almost feel like you leave us no choice, but I will say there will indeed be a second season," said director Hwang, who took over the direction and screenwriting for the masterpiece, to AP.

There were mere mentions of the possibility for a season 2 from the producers. But this is the first time the director has officially confirmed of the matter. As season 1's last scene implied of another event, there has been predictions for a sequel.

"It's in my head right now. I'm in the planning process currently. But I do think it's too early to say when and how that's going to happen," said Hwang.

"So I will promise you this, Gi-hun will be back and he'll do something for the world."

The dystopian survival drama instantly became a global smash-hit setting a record for Netflix’s original productions with the most viewers, accumulating over 140 million housings around the world in 4 weeks of its release.

The series portrays competition and betrayal, bonding and respect during a deadly game broke people must play to erase their debt and the true face of humans amid the desperate moment of survival to win 45.6 billion won of prize or dreadful death. 


“With that success has come global recognition for its stars,” reported AP.

The first fan model-turned-actress Jung Ho-yeon met when she flew to the U.S. was an immigration officer at the LA airport asking her for an autograph, AP reported.

Actor Park Hae-soo, who played Jo Sang-woo, has "made the big decision" to start an Instagram account, according to the News agency.

The lead actor, Lee Jung-jae’s life has changed because he's also recognized on the streets of America, AP said.

“That's amazing, right? People just go around and say hello. So I really don't know how to respond to all the love. It's so great to be able to meet the fans who have loved and watched the show so much,” said the actor, according to AP.

The cast and creator all have dreams of working in a Hollywood production someday, added the News agency.
