SEOUL February 13 (Yonhap) -- Office worker Lee Na-mi aced by actress Chun Woo-hee wakes up at 7 a.m. after hearing her phone alarm go off. She dresses up while listening to songs on her phone, and checks her daily agenda. Also she uses her phone to navigate herself, shops, reserve restaurants, and more.
Netflix movie “Stolen Identity” starts off by showcasing the daily life of the female protagonist Na-mi. Introduction sequence depicts how dependent current society is to the Smartphone. However, this takes hides a fatal information about how convenient device, Smartphone can flip one’s life into a living hell in matter of seconds.
Na-mi who loses her phone on her bus home due to heavy drinking, on the other hand Joon-young, acted by Im Si-wan who picks up Na-mi’s phone on the bus manages to find out about Na-mi’s personal information within a day, and slowly penetrates Na-mi’s daily life using a spyware program.
From her work to food she likes, music she listens to the most, games she play, and even a baseball team she roots for, Joon-young easily finds out about every little detail of Na-mi. After collecting all of the data on Na-mi, Joon-young makes his moves. Not knowing what Joon-young has done, Na-mi finds Joon-young attractive due to various similarities. As time progresses Joon-young expedites his plans using Na-mi’s feelings.
Movie “Stolen Identity” manages to showcase how one’s Smartphone can provide such grand amount of personal information in the most realistic depiction. Joon-young manages to find out everything there is to know about Na-mi within three days including her work location, bank balance, and more.
By using all the information found from Na-mi’s phone, Joon-young slowly cuts her ties with her friends and those around her and traps Na-mi in solitude. As the process continues, some of the scenes where the movie showcases realistic scene Smartphone scenes does an amazing job drawing viewers more into the movie.
Movie “Stolen Identity” featuring Im Si-wan and Chun Woo-hee is a remake of a Japanese movie and a first feature film of director Kim Tae-joon. Throughout the upcoming Netflix movie, director decided to re create everything except for the basic structure of the plot.
The original film depicts a story of a female protagonist who gets caught up into a weird and odd cases of event after receiving her boyfriends missing phone, however in South Korean version of the movie the actual suspect makes direct move on the female protagonist.
Moreover, within the original movie, a newly recruited detective who also is a programmer plays a role of a key figure in solving the crime has been replaced with the veteran detective figure Ji-man, acted by actor Kim Hie-won. Ji-man who finds out how the death of his son who left the house seven years ago is related to the killings done by Joon-young continues on with his pursuit vigorously.
Most importantly, acting showcased by various actors who appear within the movie is mesmerizing. Especially Im Si-wan’s portrayal of the scary psychopathic suspect provides audiences with chills. Actor Im Si-wan who managed to showcase realistic terrorist within the movie, “Emergency Declaration” successfully portrayed serial killer Joon-young.
On top of Im Si-wan’s spotless acting, Chun Woo-hee manages to showcase amazing acting from daily life of Na-mi to overwhelmed emotional outbreak throughout the movie successfully leading the story arch throughout the film.
The movie “Stolen Identity” will premiere on February 17.
