SEOUL, Sept. 4 (Yonhap) -- Musical film "My Favorite Love Story," which reinterprets Tony Award-winning Korean theatrical play, is set for release next month, the film distributor said Thursday.
The music film will hit Megabox theaters exclusively on Oct. 2., according to Kino Films.
My Favorite Love Story reinterprets and is inspired by the Korean original musical "Maybe Happy Ending," which swept six categories at this year’s Tony Awards. The film contains ample tweaks that do not appear in the original play.
Set in near-future Seoul, the movie tells the story of Oliver and Claire, helper robots who meet and fall in love.
Actors Shin Joo-hyup and Kang Hye-in, who starred as the two leads in the 2018 stage version, reprise their roles, while veteran actor Yoo Jun-sang plays Oliver’s former owner James. The film is directed by Lee Won-hoi.
Meanwhile, the original stage production, created by Park Chun-hyo and Will Aronson, made its way to Broadway last year with an overseas cast and crew. It went on to claim six awards, including best musical, at the Tony Awards earlier this year.
