TAEAN, South Chungcheong Province, Jan. 8 (Yonhap) -- Taean County said Thursday that a record total of 18.09 million people visited the county last year, the highest figure ever, according to an analysis by the Korea Tourism Data Lab operated by the Korea Tourism Organization.

The figure marks an increase of 760,000 visitors, or 4.4 percent, from 17.33 million in 2024. Among South Chungcheong Province’s 15 cities and counties, Taean ranked sixth in visitor numbers, following Cheonan, Asan, Gongju, Dangjin and Seosan.

Summer beachgoers exceeded 1.6 million for the third consecutive year, while the county also saw strong turnout during peak travel seasons, with 1.95 million visitors in May and 2.21 million in October. Even in December, typically an off-season month, 1.03 million people visited Taean.

On the back of these results, the county has decided to extend the “Visit Taean Year” campaign, which was declared last year, through this year as well.

A county official said Taean expects to usher in an era of 20 million annual visitors this year, citing the upcoming International Horticultural Healing Expo and the full-scale operation of the Taean Marine Healing Center.

“We will do our utmost to transform Taean into a destination that visitors return to and stay longer in, based on our unique natural and healing resources,” the official said.
