SEOUL January 30 (Yonhap) -- “I hope the Japanese movies will be loved greatly in South Korea in near future.” representative Kang Sang-wook of the movie import company Media Castle addressed his gratitude regarding the huge success of the Japanese movie “Even if This Love Disappears from the World Tonight.”

Japanese teen romance movie “Even if This Love Disappears from the World Tonight” which premiered in November of 2023 successfully exceeded 1 million admissions on January 29.

Throughout the recent phone call, representative Kang addressed “I was expecting somewhere between 200 thousand up to at most 460 thousand admissions however it has easily exceeded my expectation therefore I thought it was very sensational.”

Moreover, Kang addressed “Most of the Japanese movies that has succeeded within South Korea are mostly the ones that have succeeded within Japan. However the movie ‘Even if This Love Disappears from the World Tonight’ showed about the same amount of admission in Korea as Japan. It is very significant in a sense that it has broken the equation of only successful movies from Japan succeed in South Korea.”

“Even if This Love Disappears from the World Tonight” which originates from the novel by the same name depicts a story of a female protagonist who suffers from insomnia due to an unfortunate accident, and male protagonist who falls in love with the female protagonist. Male protagonist Toru Kamiya stays by female protagonist Maori Hino knowing that she tries to hide away her insomnia.

“When I was introduced with the original novel, I thought It would be amazing if it were to be made as a movie,” adding “One of the movies I have imported ‘ Let me eat your pancreas’ went viral because of the unique title it had, therefore I think the movie was more attractive and had special place within my heart.” addressed representative Kang throughout the conversation.

As for the success Kang addressed “In my perspective, it bit basic as far as the topic and overlaying theme but for those in their teenage days and in their 20 it came across as very fresh and interesting.”

“To be honest there are number of movies with protagonists with insomnia, and some of them are very famous such as ’50 First Kisses,’ ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,’ which both premiered in 2004 and more. However theses movies were premiered a while ago and for those in their 20s and teenage days these movies are not easy to come by. In my perspective the aspect of relatable lines, emotional atmosphere and protagonist Michieda Shunsuke played a huge role in the success of the film.” Addressed Kang Sang-wook.

Media Castle which started off its business as a mobile content company in 2005, jumped into the movie business after their investment in the animation “5 centimeters per seconds” in 2007. Later on the the company started to import Japanese movies and animations as their main products.

Representative Kang who is known as one of the Japanses comics enthusiast who owns more than 7000 copies of comic books, addressed “Merit of Japanese contents are their ability to shine light on small little details, romance, cooking, dancing and the genre continues on.”

Media Castle will be showcasing “Suzume” and Japanese movie which was featured in the “Busan International Film Festival” as a closing film “A Man” will be premiering in 2023.

“I would like to participate in widening of the South Korean movie industry,” adding “ I personally think leading on to one extreme end is very dangerous within the content market, I know it is a very wide and general idea, but I truly hope that Media Castle will be able to fit the needs of those who are in for more various genre of movie.” addressed representative Kang throughout the conversation.
