SEOUL, April 3 (Yonhap) -- Rookie girl group ILLIT's debut track "Magnetic" has topped SBS MTV’s music chart just eight days after its release.

According to their agency, Belift Lab, "Magnetic" by ILLIT claimed the No. 1 spot on SBS MTV's "The Show" on the 3rd day after its debut. This achievement comes just eight days after the song was released on March 25.

Tears welled up in the eyes of the members as they embraced each other emotionally upon being named the winners.

Expressing their gratitude, ILLIT stated through their agency, "Achieving first place on a music program with our debut song was one of our bucket list goals. We are grateful to have been nominated, and winning first place makes us incredibly happy."

"Magnetic" portrays feelings of attraction towards a loved one just as they are. The song was crafted with the participation of Bang Si-hyuk, the chairman of HYBE, and was supported by teenage music producers such as Martin and JAMES to capture the sentiment of youth. During their performance, the members showcased choreography resembling the attraction and repulsion of magnetic poles, using their fingers.

The catchy and addictive melody of "Magnetic" has garnered popularity on short-form platforms like TikTok, and it has made an unprecedented entry into the top ranks of major music streaming platforms, reaching No. 2 on the Melon Top 100 chart and No. 1 on the Bugs Daily chart among rookie groups.

The first mini-album "Super Real Me," which includes "Magnetic," set a new record for debut album sales by a K-pop girl group, selling over 380,000 copies according to Hanteo Chart, marking an exceptional achievement in its first week of release.
