SEOUL, Oct. 15 (Yonhap) -- Netflix has announced the production of Season 2 of the culinary survival show "Culinary Class Wars," which is regarded as the most successful variety program produced by the platform in South Korea. The new season is expected to be released in the second half of next year.
In a press release on the 15th, Netflix stated, "We are preparing to produce Season 2 of Culinary Class Wars with a target release in the latter half of next year."
Like the previous season, Season 2 will be directed by Kim Hak-min and Kim Eun-ji of Studio Slam, in collaboration with writer Mo Eun-seol. The directors expressed their gratitude, saying, "Thanks to the viewers, we have reached Season 2, and we will work hard to meet their expectations and appreciation."
Season 1 of the 12-episode show aired from September 17 to October 8. It featured a culinary competition between 20 high-profile "silver spoon" chefs with prestigious reputations and 80 lesser-known yet highly skilled "dirt spoon" chefs. The show captivated viewers with its intense competition format, the large-scale set that could accommodate dozens of chefs cooking simultaneously, a star-studded lineup, unpredictable results, stunning culinary displays, and the diverse stories of the contestants.
Culinary Class Wars became the first Netflix-produced Korean variety show to rank first in non-English viewership for three consecutive weeks. It also topped the weekly popularity rankings for both TV and OTT (online streaming services) as reported by Good Data Corporation, cementing its success.
