SEOUL, Dec. 18 (Yonhap) -- Actress Kim Tae-ri will showcase the elegance of traditional Korean hanbok to a global audience via a billboard in New York’s Times Square on Christmas Eve, the culture ministry revealed on Wednesday.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism (MCST) and the Korea Craft and Design Foundation announced that a hanbok-themed video featuring Kim Tae-ri will be displayed on a prominent Times Square billboard on Dec. 24 (local time). The video is part of a promotional project to highlight Korea’s traditional attire.

Since 2020, the MCST has been working to expand the reach of the Korean Wave (Hallyu) into traditional culture through a program that plans and develops hanbok-related collaborative content. In previous years, actress Suzy (2021) and former figure skater Kim Yuna (2022) participated in similar campaigns.

This year, four domestic hanbok brands, selected through a public competition, designed hanboks that blend traditional beauty with modern aesthetics.

Kim Tae-ri’s hanbok photoshoot will first appear in the January issue of Marie Claire Korea on Dec. 21. The promotional video will also be displayed on a large screen at Citadium Caumartin in Paris, France, from December 23 to 29, and on the K-Culture Screen at the National Museum of Korean Contemporary History in Seoul from Dec. 23 to 31.

Additionally, visitors can view the actual hanboks at the exhibition Lines of Elegance, Grace of Authority at Culture Station Seoul 284 (formerly the old Seoul Station) from Jan. 15 to Feb. 11.
