BTS receives grand prize on first day of 'MAMA AWARD'

SEOUL November 30 (Yonhap) -- South Korean superstar boy group BTS was awarded with one of the grand prizes from the cable TV channel Mnet’s end of the year music awards ceremony “MAMA Awards.”

Throughout the award ceremony held in Osaka Japan on November 29, BTS was awarded with one of the four grand prizes “Yogibo Worldwide Icon of the Year.”

Also “Worldwide Fna’s Choice” award has been awarded to Stray Kids, SEVENTEEN, Treasure, Tomorrow X Together, GOT7, Psy, NCT Dream, ENHYPHEN, BTS and BLACKPINK.

Favorite Asian Artist award went to the group JO1 which was produced by the Japanese version of Produce 101.

The new segment “Favorite New Artist” attracted a lot of viewers due to the K-pop boom led by upcoming K-pop girl group in 2022.

For the award, K-pop girl group IVE, NMIXX, LE SSERAFIM and Kep1er has been selected.

Although the “Favorite New Artist” segment which is somewhat similar to the “Best New Artist’ award however, they are different from the “Best New Artist” award being rewarded on November 30.

K-pop groups such as IVE, New Jeans, LE SSERAFIM, and numerous groups who are worthy of the award has been showcased within the industry in 2022, therefore who will received the award “Best new Artist” award hypes up the crowd.

“Mnet Asian Music Awards” which was renamed as “MAMA Awards” showcased giving out answers to all four of the groups who have shown outstanding performance. K-pop girl group Kep1er which was created from the audition survival program “Girls Planet 999” also received the trophy.

Throughout the event, K-pop girl group KARA known as one of the leading figures within the second generation of K-pop girl group has taken the stage in over 7 years attracting intense amount of crowds. After releasing their mini album “In Love” in 2015 KARA released their track “Move Again” in 2022.

On top of showcasing their latest drop KARA performed their hits “Lupin,” “STEP,” “MR.” and more throughout the show.

On the second day of the award ceremony, South Korean superstar boy group BTS’ J-hope, Jaurim, (G)-Idle, IVE, ITZY and more will take the stage.
