SEOUL, Nov. 10 (Yonhap) —"Characters are the most important thing in this movie."
Director Kim Seong-soo chose the characters as the special feature of the movie at the press conference, which was held at the Lotte Cinema Kondae branch on November 9 for the movie "Christmas Carol," which will be released in December.
The director mentioned the tension evoked as the characters change emotions and as they conflict with each other, and highlighted that "it is a good point to enjoy the movie."
The movie "Christmas Carol" depicts the story of the older brother Il-woo, who voluntarily goes into a juvenile detention center to exact revenge for his dead twin brother Wol-woo's death and fights brutally with the gang at the detention center. The movie is adapted from the long novel of the same title, written by Ju Won-kyu.
Director Kim explained that he expressed the tension caused by extreme conflicts and clashes within the juvenile detention center with the acting of actors who were fully immersed in their roles. The work is an action thriller, but the director also said he wanted to include a "human drama" in it.
Director Kim said, "The movie could be a revenge play or a thriller; it depends on the perspective," and explained, "I made this movie thinking it's a human drama." "I wanted to talk about the humane pain and the tragedy."
Park Jin-young, a member of GOT7 and an actor, played Wol-woo and his twin brother Il-woo. The actor would have felt burdened to act for the two characters with opposite personalities: the kind younger twin brother and the vengeful older brother.
Park Jin-young said, "I felt burdened by how to express the two characters, but to be honest, I didn't even have time to feel the burden." Our director considered me and allowed me to film the younger twin brother's scene first and continue with the older brother's scene.
Kim Young-min, who has shown seasoned acting in dramas and movies, is the only one in the play to take on the role of a good teacher from the beginning to the end.
