SEOUL, May 30 (Yonhap) -- Thriller film "The Plot," starring Kang Dong-won, has claimed the top spot at the box office on its opening day, surpassing the Hollywood film "Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga."
According to the Korean Film Council's integrated computer network for movie tickets, "The Plot" attracted over 124,000 viewers on its debut, accounting for a 41.6% share of total box office revenue.
Directed by Lee Yo-seop, the film delves into the lives of hitmen who disguise their murders as accidental deaths. Despite receiving praise for its intriguing subject matter and Kang Dong-won's compelling performance, the movie has faced criticism for its ambiguous ending. This mixed reception is reflected in its low CGV Golden Egg score of 62%.
"Furiosa," directed by George Miller, which had held the top position for eight consecutive days since its release on the 22nd, dropped to second place with over 62,000 viewers (23.0% share) on the same day.
Rounding out the top spots were "The Roundup 4," starring Ma Dong-seok, with around 29,000 viewers (10.2%), and "Following," featuring Shin Hye-sun and Byun Yo-han, with approximately 28,000 viewers (9.4%).
