NCT 127, wins grand prize at Seoul Music Awards…Lim Young-woong wins 4 trophies

SEOUL, Jan. 24(Yonhap) -- NCT 127, who drew great attention with their third full album "Sticker" last year, won the grand prize at “The 31st Seoul Music Awards.”

NCT 127 won the grand prize at the awards ceremony held at Gocheok Sky Dome in Guro-gu, Seoul, on Jan. 31 afternoon.

The member Tae-yong said, "I really didn't expect it, but I'm honored to receive a big award," adding, "The year of 2021 was a year where all NCT members, including NCT 127 and NCT Dream, were able to shine together."

The members who won the grand prize for the first time since their debut could not hide their overwhelming feelings.

Do-young, who teared up after named the winner, said, "I've dreamed of receiving an award like this for a long time, and thank you for giving us a meaningful award. We will become singers who deserve the award.”

K-pop superband BTS, which won the grand prize for four consecutive years since the 27th awards ceremony, has won three trophies this time, including the “Main Award,” “World Best Artist Award,” and “U+ Idol Live Best Artist Award.”

The awards of “Best Song” and “Best Album” went to IU and NCT DREAM respectively.

IU, who showed off her aspect as a "music queen" by hitting "Celebrity" and "LILAC" one after another last year, won the "Best Song Award" at the awards ceremony.

NCT Dream, a group that recorded a "triple million seller" with more than 3 million sales with the group’s first full album "Hot Sauce" and the repackaged album "Hello Future," was named the winner of the "Best Album Award."

The group EXO took the honor of winning the "K-wave Popularity Award" for the first time in two years since the 29th awards ceremony.

BTS, NCT 127, ENHYPEN, SEVENTEEN, IU, Brave Girls, ATEEZ, THE BOYZ, Kang Daniel, OH MY GIRL, Lim Young-woong, and Heize won the main award.

The “Rookie of the Year Award” went to three teams (people), including Lee Mu-jin, EPEX, and OMEGA X.

Red Velvet’s Wendy won the “Ballad Award,” and HyunA won the “R&B Hip Hop Award” respectively.

Following the main award and popularity award, Lim Young-woong won four trophies by winning “OST Award” with “Love Always Run Away,” a soundtrack for the KBS2 weekend drama “Young Lady and Gentleman,” and the “Trot Award” with “My Starry Love.”

After receiving the Popularity Award, Lim Young-woong said, "I’m thrilled, which means that I’m popular,” adding, "I want to show you many new sides of me this year as well. I hope this year could be a year when I can show you better performances in various fields.”

The Seoul Music Awards has selected and reviewed candidates for albums and songs released in 2021. The main award and awards for each category are determined by the organizing committee and judges' evaluation, album sales, and mobile voting.
