BLACKPINK's Jennie Faces Controversy Over Indoor Smoking Incident

SEOUL, July 9 (Yonhap) -- BLACKPINK's Jennie has come under fire after being spotted seemingly smoking an electronic cigarette indoors. 

 

According to the music industry on the 9th, Jennie's recent vlog video showed her receiving hair and makeup while appearing to smoke an e-cigarette indoors.

 

In the video, Jennie is seen exhaling smoke even with a staff member directly in front of her. 

 

BLACKPINK’s Jennie has come under fire after appearing to smoke an electronic cigarette indoors in a recent vlog, leading to widespread controversy. The footage, initially uploaded by Jennie, showed her smoking while getting her hair and makeup done, with staff members present nearby.

 

In response to the backlash, Jennie edited out the contentious scenes and re-uploaded the video. However, the issue continued to spread online.

 

Jennie's personal label, OA Entertainment, issued a statement on the matter: "We sincerely apologize to everyone who felt uncomfortable with Jennie’s actions. Jennie is also reflecting on her mistake of smoking indoors and the inconvenience it caused to the staff present."

 

The label added, "Jennie has personally reached out to the staff who were on site at the time to apologize."

 

A self-proclaimed BLACKPINK fan stated, "Based on recent footage from Capri Island, Italy, I have requested an investigation through the Korean Embassy in Italy via the National Petition Board."

 

The fan continued, "The Korean Embassy in Italy is urged to request the Italian authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into BLACKPINK Jennie's indoor smoking incident and impose strict penalties." Following the controversy, Jennie's vlog has been taken down, but the segment showing the alleged indoor smoking continues to circulate online.

 

Previously, other K-pop artists such as EXO's D.O. and NCT's Haechan have also faced fines and issued apologies for indoor smoking violations.
